Here’s a must-read September 18, 2006

Giles Fraser has some important thoughts on the Pope’s comments:

For the Pope argued that in Muslim teaching, because “God is absolutely transcendent”, He is “not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality”. In other words, there is no reasoning in or with Islam. Which, surely, is another way of the Pope saying how dangerous he thinks Islam is.

He continues:

For in claiming that Islam may be beyond reason, and then to claim that to act without reason is to act contrary to the will of God, is pretty close to the assertion that this religion is godless. And that’s not how different faiths ought to speak to each other – especially when we all have each other’s blood on our hands.

Read the whole thing.

Ironic, isn’t it, that the Pope would accuse Islam of being irrational.

The whole thing makes me pukey. A discriminating pope making foolish remarks. Muslims who protest being called “violent and dangerous” by killing nuns in Somalia and threatening the pope with execution. Has the whole world gone crazy?
On a lighter note, SNL’s weekend update showed a picture of the pope while reporting “homosexuality was condemned today by an older, single man wearing a cape.”

Huh? According to what self-defined standard?
Religions that make contradictory truth claims can NOT all be true. In the case of Christianity it makes an exclusivity truth claim (i.e., you can only achieve salvation though Jesus Christ) and therefore the only logical and mutually-exclusive possibilities are:

1. Christianity is the only true religion and all other religions are false
2. All religions are false
3. Christianity is false and a subset of other religions are true

I’d like to know if there is anyone who Giles Fraser believes ought to point out the logical fallacies in other religions.

especially when we all have each other’s blood on our hands.?

He can speak for himself. I and billions of others have no one’s blood on their hands.

Ironic, isn’t it, that the Pope would accuse Islam of being irrational.

No, since your premise is false.

I do find it ironic that there are so many people around the world who are members of the “Religion of Peace” yet promote violent jihad.

Ah, josephnadir, it must be frustrating that everyone who posts here has discovered you’re not worth responding to. But by all means, keep posting! I don’t know what I’d do without random use of the bold tag and terrible argument.

Ah, josephnadir, it must be frustrating

Not at all. It is quite encouraging since it is apparent based on your ad-hominem attack and your failure to address what I said above that the reason is likely due to the difficulty in arguing against my position.

I challenge you or any other person who feels up to the task to point out any falsehood in what I said above.
