Funny, I don’t see anyone wanting to burn the sistine chapel December 21, 2006

…but the anti-science crowd’s stupidity goes deeper than we thought. In the Dover trail where “intelligent design” was so thoroughly hammered by the facts, things apparently got off to a rough start well before the lawsuit.
There’s something metaphorically perfect about school officials ignoring the rules in order to burn a poster depicting human evolution because it offended them. Despite the Discovery Institute’s whining about being the ones who are silenced, it seems it’s always the creationists who want to silence those who disagree with them.
Creationists apparently don’t believe in the ultimate human act of creation, intellectual freedom of thought. A sad commentary on medieval thinking still prevalent in America.
What perplexes and bothers me most about that story is that the mural in question was painted by and given to the department as a gift from a student. The fact that a board member “gleefully watched it burn” speaks volumes to me about the respect (or, to wit, lack thereof) the board has for students.
Furthermore, what right did the B&G supervisor have to order something that was displayed in a classroom burned? So alarming…
