How ID is like America in Iraq January 27, 2007

Just like we were continually told we’d find evidence of WMDs in Iraq in the near future–told this over and over as the search dragged on for the non-existent weapons–”Weapon of Mass Instruction” tells us that ID is really, really close to doing something important.

“We’ll see the science anytime now,” he seems to be shouting. “See? We’re ‘on the Verge’ of something. We haven’t shown it to you yet, but we will.”

So what do we call a science that “is on the Verge of . . . important discoveries” and “Empirical data”? I believe the correct response is quite simple:

But in the spirit of full disclosure, I’d like to say that recent thinking indicates that I may be on the verge of publishing the world’s greatest work of fiction. All I have to do is write it. But don’t worry, it’s coming soon.

From the site that Weapon of Mass Instruction points to:

But what of the claim that our theories have not been tested and that we have not published peer-reviewed papers. It is initially quite astonishing that something as obvious as intelligent design should even need testing. Do we test the idea that the sun will rise in the morning? It’s just not needed because we can be certain that it will. Nonetheless, the skeptical biological community demands that our theories be tested – and so in due time I predict that it will be one of the most rigorously tested theories known to man.

This is obviously problematic in several ways, but I think that the example he gives of a testable hypothesis isn’t all that dreadfully awful, as far as I can tell… Its logic is a bit circular, but, in all fairness, I think many astrophysicists’ arguments are. I dunno… followup post material? :-)

*Sigh*…considering evolution is already proven, and you can watch it happen before your eyes in a labratory…*sigh*

Tannas, don’t let logic get in the way. After all, the creationists IDiots will just claim any evolution is “microevolution” and redefine “species” to be whatever fits their needs at the moment.
