Anderson Cooper gets one thing right, lots wrong May 14, 2007

Apparently, I’m now a big enough cheese that mindless TV pundits can “respond” to my posts without addressing the substance of my argument at all. I’ll give Jack Yoest this–I did incorrectly note Charmaine’s gender in my post. But I’d like to note two things. First, Jack, who is concerned with spelling, apparently can’t put together a coherent sentence:
Talk to Action can’t spell and Notes can’t discern gender. The GLBT would be pleased.
“GBLT” can’t be anything. The GBLT community might be what he’s referring to, but with wingnuts it’s hard to tell. Maybe he thinks the term refers to a political party?
More damning is the silence on the real substance of my post. Maybe it’s because he can’t find a response to my central question:
If there is legitimate debate on the topic, then why are people like Yoest and the DI trying so hard to avoid admitting they are Young Earth Creationists? No doubt it is for the same reason they would rather “debate” evolution in ninth-grade classrooms than in the scientific literature.
If Yoest had any substantive argument for ID, she should be publishing it in a peer reviewed journal. But of course she can’t because the PhD Charmaine has that gets Jacks panties in a twist* doesn’t qualify her to say shit about science. She might be okay if she could demonstrate her qualifications as a thoughtful amateur (and indeed her contributions would be welcomed), but instead she’s apparently hoping that that PolySci work she did will fool someone into thinking she knows anything about science. But if she was serious about science, she’d distance herself from the Young Earth Creationists instead of dodging the question.
I won’t hold my breath.
*It is bad form to leave off a legitimate credential in these situations, but I don’t have much sympathy for Yoest: she’s obviously trying to pass herself off as an “expert” without having any real qualifications.
[...] Austin Atheist Anonymous takes apart another appallingly bad argument from a Creationist who, like Charmaine Yoest, won’t admit that she’s a creationist. (I thought Jesus didn’t much like liars, [...]
