Gonzo gone at last: open thread August 27, 2007

Gonzo has resigned. When Ashcroft left, I didn’t think we’d ever see an AG with more contempt for the law. But it turned out Ashcroft opposed Gonzo’s unconstitutional bullshit, and Gonzo pressured him to change his mind while Ashcroft was in the hospital, and went on to trample over rights in any number of other ways.
So my question, dear readers, is this: is it possible that Gonzo’s replacement will be even worse than he is?
It’s hard to imagine, but then, I’d have said the same about John Ashcroft. Ye gods, what a frightening thought.
It was Ashcroft that was in the hospital, and Gonzo tried to get him to change his mind. To his credit, Ashcroft said no. And there will not be another AG in Bush’s term in office, as one has to be approved by the Senate, and that is not going to happen. The Solicitor General is apparently taking over the job temporarily, which means until Bush leaves office.
