Grammar: because without it, wingnuts are even more embarrassing December 5, 2007

I haven’t posted on the forced resignation of Chris Corner for the high crime of believing that science is good. Others have covered it in such detail I don’t have much to add, or I didn’t until Amanda pointed me to this site which would be hilarious if it didn’t represent people who now have power in making Texas’ textbook decisions.

There’s loads of the typical wingnut BS here: evolution is bad, abstinence-only education works, Capitalism is Jesus’ endorsed economic system. I’ll probably post on it in more detail when I decide whether to laugh of vomit. But I couldn’t let slide this fantastic example of why it’s important to proofread:

 Subject areas of concern include:

  • Scientific weaknesses in evolutionary theories
  • Phonics-based reading instruction
  • Principles and benefits of free enterprise
  • Original intent of the U.S. Constitution
  • Respect for Judeo-Christian morals
  • Emphasis on abstinence in sex education
  • Politically-correct degradation of academics

That last point should have been phrased differently, eh?

Now I need to let the irony meter cool off a bit, so I can examine the rest of the site without going crazy that people who advocate anti-science anti-science and anti-education nonsense claiming to care about the “degradation of academics.” Let those who aren’t trying to destroy education make such claims.

And seriously, phonics-based reading instruction? The other “concerns” are part of the wingnut package, but why must they try to cram a terrible literacy program down our throats as well? Learning English through phonics is like learning how to fly a plane by studying how hot air balloons work.

LOLGablers!!! (be sure to click on the picture)

And here’s another website to keep an eye on.

I’m still in recovery after the last two or three months of bad news for public education in Texas.

Unfortunately, it sure looks that way. Kansas is doing better than TX at the moment, but the war between reason and dogma ain’t over yet, and I expect we’ll see a resurgence of Creationism soon.
